SPECIAL IN-BUILDING WIRELESS WORKSHOP AT IWCE - Florida In-Building Public Safety Communications – Improve What Works, Fix What Doesn't

A unique opportunity to directly engage with the Florida Public Safety community

Posted on March 21, 2024

The Safer Buildings Coalition, in collaboration with the Florida Fire Marshal & Inspectors Association (FFMIA) and IWCE, is delighted to invite you to a very special, interactive session at IWCE in Orlando: Florida In-Building Public Safety Communications – Improve What Works, Fix What Doesn't. This innovative and collaborative session is part of a full-day in-building public safety wireless track at IWCE developed by the Safer Buildings Coalition.

Focus on Florida Public Safety Communications

If you are in Orlando for IWCE, the workshop is a cannot-miss event, which provides a unique opportunity for stakeholders to directly engage with the Florida Public Safety community.

Participants will focus on actionable improvements in Emergency Responder Communications Enhancement Systems (ERCES) in Florida. The main objective: identify the state of ERCES in the Sunshine state – and identify ways to “Improve what works, fix what doesn’t.”

The session will be facilitated by Safer Buildings Coalition’s partner Charlie Fleetham, of Project Innovations. Charlie was the Project Lead for SBC’s No Noise Task Force, the Producer of SBC’s Safe Inside Podcast series, and is the author of the business leadership book The Search For Unrational Leadership.

Some of the Florida public safety community leaders participating in the workshop include:

Jon Pasqualone (Executive Director, Florida Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association)
Ed Steffens (Former Florida Fire Marshal; Owner, Spectrum Wireless; SBC Public Safety Liaison)
Kevin Rulapaugh (Comm Spec., FL MARC System Coord./ PS Comms Chair, FL Div. of State Fire Marshall / FL Fire Chiefs Assoc.)
José De Zayas (E911 Communications Administrator, Broward County)

“We're excited to partner with the Safer Buildings Coalition for a special In-Building Public Safety Communications workshop at IWCE 2024 in Orlando this March, our first Florida event since 2018,” Caroline Hicks, Senior Director, Informa Tech, says. “With over 5,000 attendees, 280 sponsors and exhibitors, 8 content tracks, and keynotes from the FCC, CISA, and Verizon Frontline, this year’s IWCE is not just a conference and exhibition—it’s a comprehensive platform for 'Connecting Critical Communications' across the mission-critical communications community. Our collaboration is set to deliver unmatched value to both the Florida Public Safety community and the wider industry, driving forward conversations on connectivity, safety, and technological advancement.”

Florida Leads the Nation in ERCES Deployments

Florida is the leading State for requiring and implementing ERCES. As a result, there are more case studies, lessons learned, developed processes, and a deeper awareness of the advantages and challenges in enforcing and deploying these systems.

"Florida leads the nation in ERCES code adoption, enforcement, and system deployments,” states John Foley, SBC Managing Director. “During last year's FFMIA conference in Gainesville, we recognized that Florida public safety and industry stakeholders needed a deeper dive into the best practices and challenges in the ERCES sector that revolve around process, noise, interference, consistent code requirements, and more. A dialogue is clearly needed. This session will not only help Florida ERCES stakeholders identify a constructive path forward, but will offer a model for the rest of the nation to examine and consider.”

"We hope you will join us for an event that promises to shape the future of public safety communications, embodying our commitment to connecting professionals, technologies, and ideas in the pursuit of a safer, more connected world," Caroline Hicks adds.

This session has been approved by The Florida Department of Financial Services (FCDICE) for one class-hour of continuing education units (CEUs).
