Candidate Statement: I am writing to express my strong interest in the Board of Directors At-Large position at Safer Buildings Coalition. I have been following SBC’s mission for advocacy and promotion of in-building wireless technologies and Public Safety communications for many years and am deeply impressed with and grateful for all that it has accomplished.
I believe my skills and experience would be a valuable asset to the Board. I bring 35+ years of relevant experience in wireless telecommunications systems in general, and in-building wireless technologies in particular with a proven track record in advocating for robust design and implementation of best practices for ERCES systems.
Here are some specific examples:
- Created a new set of ERCES requirements for new construction in Arlington County, VA.
- Built numerous robust ERCES systems in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area and beyond. Specifically, the one that covers 6 miles of underground tunnels at DC Water Authority’s facilities.
- Contributed as principal engineer in the definition of requirements for the new Emergency P25 First Responder radio network in Botetourt Count, VA.
In addition to my professional experience, I possess a deep level of knowledge and experience in radio frequency communications, creation and promotion of pertinent standards and best practices and have successfully led and completed numerous projects for a diverse set of customers and applications. I am also a highly engaged and collaborative individual with a commitment to the mission of SBC in advocating and creating a safer environment for first responders and building occupants.
I am particularly interested in contributing to the board in the following areas:
- Development of and advocacy for industry best practices and standards in remote monitoring of BDAs, locating potential sources of interference, and if necessary, taking them out of service to mitigate malfunction.
- Evangelize the mission of SBC and help promote industry participation and promotion. I am confident that I can make a significant impact on the continued success of SBC.

Bio: The ability to navigate both, the business world and the technical world has always been the differentiating factor in Manuel Ojeda’s career. Equally at ease when negotiating a contract as well as when discussing the merits of a public safety wireless system. Mr. Ojeda has always brought to good use his unique expertise to the organizations where he has participated.
Manuel A. Ojeda began his career as an electronics engineer designing and commissioning satellite systems for the reception of weather satellite images and data. Over the years he has worked in designing and implementing a variety of radio communications systems spanning the whole spectrum of frequencies from HF to SHF for a variety of applications.
In 1984 Mr. Ojeda was one of the founders of Morcom International, Inc. where he served as Vice- president for 12 years. He then became the president and CEO of the company from 1998 until 2021 when the company was sold to new ownership. Under Mr. Ojeda’s leadership, Morcom experienced a period of sustained growth and has been recognized among the Inc5000 fastest growing companies in America for 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2017, and 2018. Today Morcom is a recognized leader in the field of critical wireless communications.
Mr. Ojeda is well known in the field of wireless-communications systems. He has extensive experience in the management of technical and administrative personnel as well as in supporting key customer accounts with highly sensitive government agencies. He has an unblemished record of successfully completed projects and satisfied customers. As communications engineer he has acted as a project director, project manager, team leader and senior engineering specialist in the design, support and implementation of telecommunications systems for government, public safety, and private agencies including radio communications systems, ground to air communications systems, data communications systems, In-Building wireless systems, defense communications systems, computer networks, and PTP/PTMP wireless networks. Mr. Ojeda has over 30 years of experience in the design, installation, commissioning, operation, and deployment of wireless communications systems for numerous applications.
Currently, in addition to providing services as a technical subject expert and consultant in wireless communications Mr. Ojeda is leading several efforts in the better use of innovative technologies to improve the reliability of Distributed Antenna Systems for public safety applications.
