From the Chief’s Corner: The Error of One's Ways
Compliance with FCC Rules is MANDATORY

Non-compliance with all Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules regulating the utilization of signal boosters can severely compromise the effectiveness of the public safety communication system. Indeed, the importance of adhering to FCC regulations, specifically Rule 47 CFR Part 90.219, which mandates obtaining express written consent from the frequency license holder before operating a public safety signal booster, cannot be overstated.
Alas, failure to comply with current regulations is all too common. How do we rectify this?

SBC Kicks Off the Seminar Season With a Packed House in Miami!

The Coalition’s 2024 In-Building Public Safety Communications Seminar season is off to a fantastic start as Chief Alan Perdue and team hosted our largest-ever seminar audience at Fire Tower Miami on January 31st.
Almost 150 first responders, government officials, industry reps, et al packed the room for an engaging last day of January in the Sunshine State.

Are you planning to attending, exhibit at, even sponsor a State or National Fire Marshal event in the new year? If so, we invite you to join our special ERCES Handbook Sponsorship Program, which allows SBC members to purchase one or more boxes of books (eight books per box) at a deep discount, affix their own labels and hand out the book to local AHJs and Radio System Staff. I have spoken at conferences, SBC seminars, association events, AHJ small groups, etc. After so many years, and so many events, you may start to feel that, by now – surely – everyone knows everything they need to know about this. You may even wonder whether you need to continue educating people about this. The short answer: Very much so!

Codes and Standards Work Group January 2024

The Codes and Standards work group has begun what promises to be a busy 2024. As the deadline for proposed changes for the next edition of the International Fire Code loomed early in January, a sub-working group prepared a few last-minute proposals. These were submitted as a backup addressing some of the same issues the group working on NFPA 1225 is attempting to address in case that effort is unsuccessful.
