The 2019 In-Building Wireless Congress (IBW) descended on Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas June 10-12, and the Safer Buildings Coalition participated in this great event as both an exhibitor and a content partner. We were proud to present a very strong two-day program, which brought together some of the brightest minds of the industry and fostered engaging presentations, spirited panel discussions and audience Q&A.

On July 16th, Safer Buildings Coalition, Microlab and Predictive Technologies hosted the latest installment in our Webinar series: Monitoring Requirements for In-Buildings ERRCS.

This seminar focused on the monitoring of Emergency Responder Radio Communications System (ERRCS) and the benefits of assuring that all components of the system (both Active and Passive) are continuously monitored for correct operation. The webinar featured presentations by Thomas McCabe of Microlab and Eric Carey of Predictive.

We had a chance to catch up with Dense Networks’ Executive Director Pete Murray during the recent In-Building Wireless Congress to discuss Dense Networks, “smart” cities, and how Dense and Safer Buildings Coalition can work together to improve public safety and the public’s safety.

From the Chief’s Corner: Objects in Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear…

At a recent event, I was asked to deliver an impromptu speech to the group. I accepted the invitation, but what would I talk about? Then an image came to me of the last thing I remembered after backing into the parking space: the words inscribed on the passenger side mirror: “OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR.”

But what does a car’s side view mirror have to do with public safety in-building systems? Let me explain… It is about optics. How you can lose sight of what’s important if you focus too much on matters that distract you.

Draft code proposals for the 2022 edition of NFPA 1221 are due June 26th

If you’re planning a family vacation, or thinking about getting tickets for Super Bowl LVI, the year 2022 probably seems far away. But if you’re a stakeholder in the in-building emergency responder communications system world, 2022 is actually a lot closer than you may think.

Indeed, the first draft code proposals for the 2022 edition of NFPA 1221 – the Standard for the Installation, Maintenance, and Use of Emergency Services Communications Systems – are due on June 26, 2019 at 5:00 pm EDT.
