SBC Annual Meeting Recap

Last week marked the first of many successful Annual Meetings for the Safer Buildings Coalition. Representatives from several of our member organizations, as well as prospective members, gathered on the beautiful campus of Texas Christian University to discuss past, present, and future goals for improving in-building wireless communications.

Among those present were representatives from RF Connect, Graybar, SOLiD, CTS, CommScope, AT&T, Camden Property Trust, Redwood Electric Group, and Priority RF.

The meeting kicked off with an introduction by the founder of the Safer Buildings Coalition and principal at Priority RF, Seth Buechley. He gave members a brief history of how the Safer Buildings Coalition came into existence, and the mission that the coalition aims to fulfill – creating solutions for “in-building communication when it’s needed most.” Following that, Executive Director Chief Alan Perdue gave an update on the code changes that were put forth to the ICC in April. He highlighted the code proposals that were accepted, as well as the plan for gaining approval on those that were disapproved.

Following the code update, those present were given the opportunity to share a bit about themselves, their company, and the role their company plays in the public safety industry. This introduction was followed by a roundtable discussion, during which Chief Perdue moderated conversation about the current issues and questions facing the public safety industry, and what the Safer Buildings Coalition, along with the support and resources of our members, can do to facilitate change.

The Annual Meeting was followed by the DASpedia In-Building Wireless Technology Seminar + Networking event, during which Chief Perdue gave a moving presentation on the importance of public safety DAS. It’s safe to say that the 2016 Annual Meeting was a huge success – one that brought about a few projects that we can’t wait to get started on. Stay tuned!
