Memorial Day

In the Company of Heroes...

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13

Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. According to PBS, the total number of Americans killed in all US Wars to date is more than 1.1 Million. But each lost soldier has a name, a family, a story, a legacy. Memorial Day is personal.

Memorial Day is personal - deserving of our enduring gratitude and reflection

We spoke with J. Stuart Richards, Pennsylvania author and military historian, and a veteran of the Vietnam War.

“You know, when you go up on Memorial Day and you go into a cemetery, and you see all those flags flying on all those graves… I always call it ‘in the company of heroes’, because each one of those graves marks a hero. At each one of those graves… you put your hand on that tombstone, there’s a story there that they could tell you about their duty and service.”

We of the Safer Buildings Coalition pay grateful tribute to our nation’s heroes, and recognize the brave men and women who offered their greatest love in service to us all.
