During our Annual Meeting Q&A session, Chief Perdue mentioned that many Inspection Departments are either conducting remote inspections or considering their development. Information related to those inspections can be found in a white paper document the International Code Council recently published “Recommended Practices for Remote Virtual Inspections.” Click here to view the Recommended Practices for Remote Virtual Inspections (RVI) PDF

The document features several sections related to the customer. These include: Scheduling the remote virtual inspection, Preparing for the remote virtual inspection and What to expect during the inspection. “One of the most important aspects of any inspection is knowing what the expectations of the inspector for your specific inspection will be. Virtual inspections are new to all of us, therefore, clear communication and preparation for the inspection is key to a successful outcome,” Chief Perdue notes.

Many governmental jurisdictions might consider these guidelines for an effective and consistent remote virtual inspections program. The publication is based on research and discussions from the Code Council’s membership (including responses to an earlier Code Council survey of U.S. code officials on COVID-19 response), partners and industry experts.
